Final Stats
Texas A&M International University played Midwestern State in non-conference action on Friday night in Wichita Falls in the first road game of the season for the Dustdevils. The contest turned out to be a 110-minute double overtime marathon that ended in a 0-0 tie against the 18th ranked Indians.
MSU (6-1-2) out-shot TAMIU 31-5 but finished with only an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Dustdevil senior goalkeeper Luis Rincon helped boost his team to an important tie by making eight saves on the evening.
While not completely satisfied with the result, head coach Claudio Arias sees some positives aspects of the tie.
"It could have gone either way but we'll take the tie," Arias said. "Anytime you tie a nationally-ranked program on its home field you have to feel that you accomplished something positive."
TAMIU (2-3-2) returns to Heartland Conference action on Sunday at UT-Permian. Kickoff against the Falcons is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Dustdevils enter the game in first place in the conference standings with seven points and a 2-0-1 league record.
