St. Edward's Gets Past TAMIU In Four Sets

St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International University in four sets (26-28, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21) in Heartland Conference action on Wednesday evening at the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building.

TAMIU (2-16, 1-4 Heartland) fell behind 11-7 in the fourth set before battling back to cut the margin to 22-21 on a kill by Nancy Rodríguez. St. Edward's (13-5, 5-0) responded with three straight points, however, to close out the win.

Isela Flores and Alexandria Montemayor led the Dustdevils with 15 kills apiece. Montemayor finished with a team-high 26 digs and Jacquelyne Matula with a team-high four blocks.

TAMIU will play its next four matches on the road before returning to the friendly confines to play Oklahoma Panhandle State on Oct. 15. The Dustdevils will face Lone Star Conference opponents Midwestern State and Texas Woman's this Saturday in tournament action at St. Mary's University.
