West Texas A&M Edges TAMIU In Season Opener

Sept. 4, 2009

Final Stats

Eighth-ranked West Texas A&M snuck past Texas A&M International University 1-0 on Friday night at Dustdevil Field. The result avenged TAMIU's win over the Buffaloes last season.

Ben Everson scored the game's only goal in the second minute of regulation when he sliced the ball into the net from eight yards out on the left side and only two yards from the end line.

TAMIU (0-1) finished with a 10-6 edge in shots taken but WT (3-0) goalkeeper Sebastian Furness finished with six saves to help his team claim its third straight shutout win. Juan Pablo Muñoz and Luis Rincon combined to make four saves for the Dustdevils.

TAMIU opens Heartland Conference play on Monday night with a home game against St. Mary's. Kickoff against the Rattlers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
