UTPB Claims 22-Point Win Over Dustdevils

UT-Permian Basin defeated Texas A&M International University 99-77 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome on the UTPB campus in Odessa. The result snaps TAMIU's eight-game winning streak against the Falcons, who improve to 3-11 in the all-time series against the Dustdevils.

TAMIU (3-15, 2-4 Heartland) led 11-10 at the 16:28 mark of the first half before UTPB (9-8, 4-2) went on a 13-0 run to take a 23-11 lead at the 12:57 mark. Latreshe Jones connected on a jumper at the 7:39 mark to cut the Falcon lead to 32-29 but UTPB responded with a 20-13 run to claim a 52-42 halftime lead.

Linda Banuelos cut the opponent lead to 57-50 on a free throw at the 17:28 mark of the second half before UTPB went on a 7-0 run to stretch the lead to 64-50 at the 16:12 mark. The Dustdevils would get no closer than nine points the rest of the game.

Johnna Williams led the Dustdevils with a team-high 20 points and 8 rebounds. Banuelos finished with a season-high 16 points and Jones contributed 12 points.

TAMIU will take a week off before returning to action next Saturday with a road game at St. Edward's. Tip-off against the Lady Hilltoppers is scheduled for 2 p.m.
