Final Stats
St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International University 77-62 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center on the SEU campus in Austin.
St. Edward's (7-11, 3-5 Heartland) took control of the game early in the second half. After José Alicea hit a 3-pointer to give TAMIU (7-10, 4-4) a 41-40 lead at the 16:33 mark the Hilltoppers answered with a 19-4 run that would push them to a 59-45 lead at the 10:16 mark. TAMIU would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the contest.
TAMIU shot well, making 21 of 45 field goal attempts (46. 7 %) but SEU shot even better, making 23 of 26 attempts (50 %). The Hilltoppers finished with a 30-26 rebounding edge.
Will Faiivae and Luis Gómez led TAMIU with 17 points scored apiece. Faiivae also contributed a team-high 7 rebounds. Chris Swan finished with 12 points.
TAMIU will conclude a five-game road swing with games at Dallas Baptist on Thursday and Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday.
