Final Stats
St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International University 84-73 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Austin.
St. Edward's (4-15, 2-5 Heartland) led 37-33 at halftime but TAMIU (3-16, 2-5) opened the second half with a 5-0 run, taking a 38-37 lead on a layup by Mary Tobias at the 18:45 mark. The Hilltoppers responded with an 18-5 run to claim a 55-43 lead at the 12:39 mark.
TAMIU would fight back to cut the lead to 69-62 on a jumper by Monica Gutiérrez at the 5:06 mark before St. Edward's scored the next four points to take a 73-62 lead at the 3:34 mark. The Dustdevils got no closer than nine points the rest of the game.
TAMIU finished with a decisive 42-28 rebounding edge over St. Edward's but the Dustdevils committed 29 turnovers compared to 19 for the Hilltoppers. SEU finished with 32 points off of turnovers.
Tobias led the Dustdevils with 14 points. Kiandra Metoyer finished with 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds and Valencia Roy contributed 11 points.
TAMIU returns to action next Saturday with a road game at Arkansas-Fort Smith.
