Dallas Baptist Drops Dustdevils 76-68

Dallas Baptist defeated Texas A&M International University 76-68 in Heartland Conference action on Thursday night at Patriot Basketball Court on the DBU campus. The result improves DBU's record to 6-2 in the all-time series between the two teams.

Dallas Baptist (11-8, 5-4 Heartland) jumped out to an early 17-11 before TAMIU (7-11, 4-5) battled back to take an 18-17 lead on a jumper by Chris Swan at the 6:52 mark of the first half. The Patriots then finished the half with a 12-4 run to take a 29-22 lead at the break.

TAMIU took a 37-35 lead on a jumper by Luis Gómez at the 15:27 mark of the second half before DBU went on a 13-1 run to take a 48-38 lead at the 10:50 mark. The Dustdevils battled back once more, however, cutting the Patriot lead to 59-55 on two free throws by Bernard Burrell at the 4:09 mark.

DBU then secured the win by going on a 9-0 run to take a 68-55 lead at the 2:44 mark.

TAMIU made 26 of 57 field goal attempts (45.6 %) but DBU fared even better, making 23 of 45 attempts (51.1 %). The Dustdevils finished with a 25-23 rebounding edge, marking the 10th time this season TAMIU has out-rebounded its opponent.

St. Paul Latham led the Dustdevils with 18 points. Gómez finished with 14 points and Will Faiivae contributed 10 points. Burrell finished with a team-high 6 rebounds.

TAMIU returns to action on Saturday with a non-conference game at Arkansas-Fort Smith.
