Final Stats
Arkansas-Fort Smith defeated Texas A&M International University 82-51 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Stubblefield Center on the UAFS campus in Fort Smith. The result reverses TAMIU's 63-40 win over UAFS on Jan. 2 in Laredo.
UAFS (4-16) took control early, breaking a 3-3 tie at the 18:29 mark by going on a 22-0 run that stretched the Lion lead to 25-3 at the 12:54 mark. TAMIU (7-12) cut the lead 25-10 on a layup by Gary Matthews Jr. at the 9:48 mark but Arkansas-Fort Smith stormed back to take a 50-22 halftime lead.
UAFS led by 30-plus points for most of the second half.
Bernard Burrell led the Dustdevils with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Will Faiivae finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
TAMIU returns to action on Thursday with a home conference game against Newman. Tip-off against the Jets is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building on campus.
