Dustdevils Roll Past Jaguars 5-1

Texas A&M International University extended its winning streak to three games with a dominating 5-1 non-conference win over UH-Victoria on Sunday evening at Dustdevil Field.

Five different Dustdevils scored in the rout with Adan Villavicencio getting things started with a shot into the lower right corner of the net in the 16th minute. Jaime Cano added a goal in the 22nd minute and Abel Villavicencio scored in the 41st minute to lift the Dustdevils to a 3-0 halftime lead.

TAMIU (7-5) stretched the lead to 5-0 early in the second half with goals by Leonardo Ramos in the 58th minute and Kristian Quintana in the 59th minute. Ryan Hastie scored UHV's (1-6-2) lone goal of the game on a short-range shot in the 59th minute.

In addition to scoring his fourth goal of the season, Quintana was credited with the assist on three of TAMIU's five goals. He now leads the team with 12 total points for the season.

UHV out-shot TAMIU 19-12 with an 11-7 edge in shots on goal. TAMIU junior goalkeeper Emmanuel Frias finished with a season-high 10 saves.

TAMIU will conclude the season by playing five of its final six games on the road. The lone home game against St. Edward's on Oct. 31 could determine the Heartland Conference title.
