Texas A&M International University tied West Texas A&M 1-1 on Sunday afternoon in Canyon, marking TAMIU's second tie in three days against a traditional Lone Star Conference power. The Dustdevils tied Eastern New Mexico 2-2 on Friday afternoon in Portales, N.M.
Yamin Olavarrieta provided TAMIU (7-5-2) a 1-0 lead when he headed a free kick from Adan Villavicencio into the net in the fourth minute. The score stood until Dominic Furness evened the score for WT (7-5-1) with a successful penalty kick in the 82nd minute.
Neither team scored over the next 27 minutes and the game ended in a tie.
WT finished with a decisive 24-9 edge in shots and 10-4 edge in shots on goal. TAMIU goalkeeper Jesús Cisneros kept the Dustdevils in the game by making nine saves, with seven coming in the first half.
