A long-range goal by Carolina Hernández lifted St. Mary's to a 1-0 overtime win over Texas A&M International University on Friday night at Dustdevil Field.
Hernández recorded the game-winner in the 99th minute when she drove a left footed shot from 30 yards out near the left sideline into the net on the far post.
St. Mary's (8-6-1, 5-2 Heartland) held a 14-10 advantage in shots taken during regulation but TAMIU (4-8, 1-5) led 7-5 in shots on goal. Lady Rattler goalkeeper Mari Edwards made seven saves in regulation with Sasha Scott making four saves for the Dustdevils.
TAMIU did not get a shot off in overtime. St. Mary's had a shot sail wide of the goal in the first minute of overtime before winning the game on a shot with less than a minute to go in the first overtime period.
TAMIU will play its next three games on the road before concluding the season with a home contest against St. Edward's on Nov. 4. The road swing begins with a trip to Odessa on Monday to face UT-Permian Basin.
