Oct. 25, 2010

Final Stats

An overtime penalty kick goal by Kaylen Gerkey lifted UT-Permian Basin to a 3-2 Heartland Conference win over Texas A&M International University on Monday afternoon in Odessa.

UTPB (4-11-1, 1-7 Heartland) took an early 1-0 lead before Shelby Williams evened the score for TAMIU (4-9, 1-6) with a penalty kick into the back of the net in the 19th minute.

The Falcons reclaimed the lead a couple of minutes later and that 2-1 advantage stood until Sol Medina found the upper right corner of the net off an assist by Williams in the 51st minute. That 2-2 score stood until Gerkey ended the game a little more than four minutes into the overtime period.

Sasha Scott made four saves in goal for the Dustdevils in a complete game effort.

TAMIU will play at Dallas Baptist on Thursday and Newman on Saturday before concluding the season with a home game against St. Edward's on Nov. 4.
