Texas A&M International University edged UT-Permain Basin 1-0 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.
TAMIU (5-5, 3-1 Heartland) out-shot UTPB 16-10 in regulation but neither team scored in what was a grinding test of wills. UTPB (1-8, 1-2) goalkeeper Chris Benavides recorded six saves in regulation compared to five saves for Dustdevil goalkeeper Emmanuel Frias.
The Dustdevils nearly ended the game in the first overtime, with Jaime Cano barely missing the upper right hand corner of the net on a blast in the 94th minute and Christian Salazar having a hard head-on shot stopped by Benavides in the 96th minute.
Just when it looked like the game might end in a tie, Leonardo Ramos stretched out for a pass from Luís Salas and placed a hard shot just inside the left post in the 106th minute. Ramos' game-winner was his first goal of the season and second for his career.
