Final Stats

Texas A&M International University wrapped a two-game season sweep over Heartland Conference rival St. Mary's with a 2-0 win over the Rattlers on Friday night at Dustdevil Field.

Leonardo Ramos scored the game-winner for the Dustdevils when he headed a crossing pass from Edgar Flores into the net in the third minute.

TAMIU (6-5, 4-1 Heartland) had the upper hand offensively all night but the score stood at 1-0 until a spectacular goal by Kristian Quintana upped the lead to 2-0 late in the game. Quintana connected on a long curving free kick from Luís Salas in the 85th minute, sending a bicycle kick into the left side of the net to provide the Dustdevils an insurmountable lead.

The Dustdevils had several scoring opportunities before Quintana's kill shot, including near-misses by Soamy Bautista in the 54th minute and Salas in the 72nd minute.

Jesús Cisneros made three saves for the Dustdevils compared to five saves for St. Mary's (2-7, 1-4) goalkeeper David Schmeizer.

TAMIU returns to action on Sunday with a non-conference home game against UH-Victoria. Kickoff against the Jaguars is scheduled for 6 p.m.
