Oct. 9, 2010

Final Stats

Dallas Baptist edged Texas A&M International University 3-2 in a back-and-forth Heartland Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.

DBU (3-8, 1-2 Heartland) held a 1-0 halftime lead before TAMIU (4-6, 1-3) took the lead on a penalty kick goal by Lisette Gill in the first minute of the second period and a header into the net by Ashley Wall in the 53rd minute.

Brittany Layne then scored her second goal of the game for Dallas Baptist in the 64th minute to tie the score 2-2. It looked like the game might go into overtime but DBU's Chelsea Smith pounced on the deflection from a blocked shot from teammate Kourtney Edwards before putting the ball into the net from 15 yards out to give her team the lead with two and a half minutes left in regulation. That go-ahead goal would prove to be the game-winner.

DBU out-shot TAMIU 18-7 with a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. Dustdevil goalkeeper Sasha Scott finished with six saves and Lady Patriot goalkeepers Ashley Saunders and Haley Corbell combined for three saves.
