Paige Parrish connected on lay-up at the buzzer to lift UT-Tyler to an 87-86 win over Texas A&M International University on Monday night at the Herrington Patriot Center on the UTT campus in Tyler. It was the second heartbreaking road loss of the season for the Dustdevils, who lost in similar fashion gainst Southwestern Oklahoma on Nov. 15.
Johnna Williams made two free throws to lift TAMIU to an 85-77 lead with 1:09 remaining in regulation before UTT went on a 10-1 run to win the game. The Dustdevils committed two fouls and two turnovers over the final 60 seconds or regulation.
UT-Tyler made three of three field goal attempts and four of four free throw attempts over that stretch compared to one of two free throws made by the Dustdevils.
Williams turned in another outstanding performance in the loss, finishing with 19 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. Linda Bañuelos contributed 17 points, Christina Tristan finished 13 points and eight rebounds and Samantha Chacon pitched in with 12 points and five assists.
TAMIU (1-5) out-rebounded UTT (1-2) 50-32 but the Dustdevils committed 24 turnovers compared to 15 turnovers for the Lady Patriots.
