Final Stats

Texas A&M-Commerce defeated Texas A&M International University 88-54 on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the St. Mary's River City Classic in San Antonio.

TAMU-Commerce (3-0) built an 11 point lead at the 3:54 mark of the first half. The Dustdevils fought back to cut the Lion lead to 38-32 when Luís Gómez grabbed a defensive rebound before nailing a 3-pointer on the other end at the 2:05 mark. The Lions went to the locker room with a 44-36 lead.

Commerce opened the second half with a 28-8 run to build an insurmountable 72-44 lead at the 9:11 mark of the second half. The Dustdevils would get no closer than 25 points the rest of the game.

TAMIU (0-4) out-rebounded TAMU-C 38-27 but committed 28 turnovers compared to 11 for the Lions.

Will Faiivae led TAMIU with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and one block. Evan Matteson contributed a team-high six rebounds and two blocks.

Gómez finished with nine points with Brian Schaeffer and James Silvie contributed eight points apiece.
