Final Stats
Rice defeated Texas A&M International University 76-49 in exhibition action on Monday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston. The game was TAMIU's second exhibition in three days against a NCAA Division I opponent.
Will Faiivae hit a jumper at the 12:48 mark of the first half to cut Rice's lead to 17-15 but the Owls would finish the half with a 25-11 run to take a 42-26 lead at the break.
James Silvie made a lay-up at the 17:30 mark of the second half to cut the deficit to 42-33 but the Dustdevils would get no closer than that margin. Rice had a 52-33 lead at the 13:06 mark and a 67-39 lead at the 5:47 mark.
Silvie lead the Dustdevils with 10 points and four rebounds. Marcus Britt and Ryan McLucas contributed eight points apiece and Evan Matteson finished with a team-high two blocks.
TAMIU will open the regular season with a three-game road swing through Oklahoma against Lone Star Conference opponents. The Dustdevils will play at Cameron on Friday, East Central on Saturday and Southwestern Oklahoma on Monday.
