Texas A&M International University stretched its school record winning streak to five games with an 80-37 rout over Monterrey Tech on Friday night at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
TAMIU (5-4) held a 36-21 lead at halftime before quickly putting the game out of reach early in the second half. The Dustdevil lead stood at 47-24 at the 16:30 mark of the second period and 61-26 at the 9:52 mark. Monterrey Tech would get no closer than 31 points the rest of the game.
Four players scored in double-figures for the Dustdevils with Will Faiivae leading the way with 12 points. Armando Brito, Ryan McLucas and James Silvie contributed 11 points apiece.
Brito also lead the squad in rebounds (9), assists (8) and steals (7).
TAMIU out-rebounded MT 35-30 while recording 17 steals compared to five steals for the Borregos.
TAMIU will try to extend the winning streak during a three-game road swing to Hawaii. The Dustdevils will play at Hawaii-Hilo on Dec. 13, Hawaii Pacific on Dec. 15 and Chaminade on Dec. 17.
