Dec. 16, 2010

Final Stats

Texas A&M International University is two for two on its trip to Hawaii after Wednesday night's 56-45 win over Hawaii Pacific at the Neal Blaisdell Center on the HPU campus in Honolulu. TAMIU started its trip to paradise with a win over Hawaii-Hilo on Monday night and will conclude it against Chaminade on Friday night.

TAMIU (7-4) limited HPU (3-7) to 8 of 31 field goal shooting in the first half, paving the way to a 27-19 halftime lead for the Dustdevils. TAMIU led by 18 points midway through the second period and the Sea Warriors cut the lead to single digits only once the rest of the game and that was with only 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

TAMIU finished with a 38-34 rebounding edge over HPU, marking the eighth time in the last nine games that the Dustdevils have out-rebounded their opponent. The Dustdevils also made 21 of 42 field goal attempts, marking the fifth time TAMIU has shot 50% or better in a game.

Luís Gómez led the team with 13 points and Will Faiivae finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Ryan McLucas contributed a team-high six assists.

Chaminade (7-4) will provide a tough test for the Dustdevils. The Silverswords own a win over Oklahoma this year and have a long history of wins over quality NCAA Division I teams. Chaminade's win over Virginia in 1982 is considered one of the greatest upsets in college basketball history.
