Final Stats
Texas A&M International University's men's basketball team in hitting on all cylinders entering the Christmas break. TAMIU defeated Chaminade 77-63 on Friday night at McCabe Gym on the CU campus in Honolulu, allowing the Dustdevils to hit the break with a three-game sweep on their trip to the Aloha State.
TAMIU (8-4) jumped out to a 24-13 lead midway through the first period and never looked back against Chaminade, a traditional NCAA Division II power. Evan Matteson contributed a dunk and Armando Brito pitched in with a layup in the final minute of the first half to help push the Dustdevils to a 44-23 lead at the break.
Chaminade (7-5) slowly cut into the Dustdevil lead in the second half but could get no closer than 69-61 at the 2:15 mark. TAMIU ended the game with an 8-2 run to cap what is arguably the most successful month in Dustdevil basketball history.
TAMIU blistered the nets for a 29 of 49 shooting performance (59.2 %) while outrebounding the Silverswords 31-24.
Matteson and Luís Gómez led the Dustdevils with 18 points apiece. Ryan McLucas added 13 points, Brito finished with 11 points and a team-high five rebounds.
TAMIU will return to action by ringing in the New Year with back-to-back home games against Hillsdale Freewill Baptist on Jan. 1-2. Fans are encouraged to pack the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building to support a team that is definitely taking Dustdevil basketball to a new level of excellence.
