Dec. 4, 2010

Final Stats

Six players scored in double-figures to lead Texas A&M International University to an easy 100-41 win over Barclay Christian College on Saturday night in the finale of the La Posada Classic at the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building. The result marks the first time the Dustdevils have scored 100 points in a winning effort since the middle of the 2007-08 season.

The game was never in doubt, with TAMIU (3-4) starting the game with a 20-0 run and Barclay Christian (3-5) not scoring its first basket until nearly seven minutes into regulation. The Dustdevils led 56-20 at the break before stretching the lead to 43 points by starting the second half with a 7-0 run. The Bears would get no closer than 38 points the rest of the game.

TAMIU connected on a school single-game record 15 3-pointers in the win. The old record of 14 treys was accomplished twice, most recently against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Nov. 27 at the St. Mary's Classic.

Evan Matteson led the Dustdevils with 17 points and seven rebounds, both career high marks for the junior. James Silvie finished with 14 points and seven rebounds and Ryan McLucas turned in another outstanding game, finishing with 13 points, 12 assists and six steals.

TAMIU returns to action on Thursday and Friday when the Dustdevils will host the University of México. All fans donating an unwrapped toy for the Salvation Army Toy Drive will be granted free admission on either day while also receiving a 50% coupon good at the Starbuck's at Killam Library. Thursday's game will start at 7 p.m with Friday's game scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
