St. Mary's Breezes Past TAMIU In Heartland Conference Action

St. Mary's defeated Texas A&M International University 75-67 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.

St. Mary's (15-9, 10-4 Heartland) jumped out to a 15-4 lead en route to a 39-24 halftime lead. The Rattlers led by double-digits for the entire second half until Gary Matthews Jr. hit a layup for TAMIU (9-14, 6-7) with seven seconds remaining in regulation.

Will Faiivae led the Dustdevil offense with 17 points. Luis Gómez and Chris Swan tied for the team lead with 7 rebounds apiece.

Swan also scored 11 points, pushing to the top of the TAMIU career scoring list with 980 points. The previous record of 976 points was held by Keith Simpson. Swan is also the Dustdevil career leader with 397 rebounds and 121 steals.

TAMIU will now conclude the regular season with home games against UT-Permian Basin, Oklahoma Panhandle State and St. Edward's. Tip-off for Thursday's game against UTPB is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building on campus.
