Final Stats
Texas A&M International University split two games played at the Angelo State Blue & Gold Leadoff Classic on Sunday. The Dustdevils opened with a 6-2 win over UT-Permian Basin before dropping a 11-9 decision to Lone Star Conference power Angelo State.
TAMIU scored five runs on two hits and one UTPB error in the second inning of the opener. The Dustdevils scored two of those runs on bases loaded walks to Alexis González and Angel Montejano. Samantha García also contributed a sacrifice fly RBI in that frame.
Clarissa Salinas (1-0) picked up the win over UTPB with a complete game effort. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
Angelo State jumped out to a 7-0 lead with four runs in the first inning and three runs in the second before TAMIU answered with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. ASU led 10-5 before the Dustdevils made it close again with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Dustdevils finished with 10 hits in the loss. Samantha Carrillo, Marina Vasquez and Alexis González finished with two hits apiece.
Victoria Beltrán (2-4) took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits in 2.0 innings.
TAMIU (3-8) will conclude the Angelo State Tournament with a one game against West Texas A&M on Monday.
