Dustdevils Roll Past Oklahoma Panhandle State

Feb. 20, 2010

Final Stats

Texas A&M International University defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State 79-52 on Saturday at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building on campus. The dominating win puts the Dustdevils in sixth place in the conference standings with only one regular season game to play and goes a long way in insuring a bid in the upcoming Heartland Conference postseason tournament.

TAMIU (5-21, 4-9 Heartland) led by double-digits the entire second half. The Dustdevils went up 61-40 on a layup by Valencia Roy at the 10:21 mark and 77-48 on a jumper by Kiandra Metoyer at the 3:45 mark.

Johnna Williams finished with a double-double, contributing 14 points and 15 rebounds. Roy finished with 13 points and Courtney Dixon and Christina Tristan contributed 10 points apiece. Metoyer tied for the team lead with 15 rebounds.

TAMIU closes out the regular season next weekend with a home game against St. Edward's.

A win over the Hilltoppers would clinch a spot for TAMIU in the six-team Heartland Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by St. Mary's on Mar. 4-6. The only way the Dustdevils don't make the conference tournament would be a loss to SEU combined with Newman or Oklahoma Panhandle State winning both of its game next week.
