Final Stats
St. Mary's defeated Texas A&M International University 3-2 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio.
Jorge Guarneros scored an unearned run for the Dustdevils in the top of the third inning to give TAMIU a 1-0 lead. St. Mary's (18-7, 16-6 Heartland) scored one run in the bottom of the third inning and two runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Rey Alvarez scored on a single by Max St. Hilaire in the eighth inning to cut the Rattler lead to 3-2. Hilaire was on second base and Matt Winter on first base in the eighth when St. Mary's reliever Sammy Rivas ended the threat on an Enrique Granados fly out to right field.
TAMIU (8-17, 7-17) went down in order in the ninth inning, allowing the home team to wrap up a three-game series sweep over the Dustdevils.
John Gonzáles (1-4) took the loss for TAMIU. He allowed three runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings. Margarito Segovia and Chris Villa kept the Dustdevils in the game by combining for 2.1 innings of scoreless relief work.
TAMIU returns to action next weekend with a four-game Heartland Conference series at UT-Permian Basin.
