Dustdevils Sweep UT-Permian Basin To Stay Perfect In Heartland Conference Play

Texas A&M International University swept UT-Permian Basin in Heartland Conference action on Friday afternoon at the UTPB Softball Complex in Odessa. TAMIU came from behind in both games, winning game one 7-2 and game two 4-2.

TAMIU (14-17 overall) improves to 8-0 in Heartland Conference play with the sweep of the Lady Falcons.

TAMIU had only one hit in the first three innings of the opener and UTPB led 2-0 going into the fourth inning. The Dustdevils got it going in the fourth, however, taking a 3-2 lead on a three-run home run by Clarissa Salinas. TAMIU sealed the win with two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.

Victoria Beltrán (5-6) earned the win for the Dustdevils after allowing two runs on nine hits with with four strikeouts and no walks in a complete-game effort. Beltrán allowed only two hits, both ninth inning singles, over the final three innings.

TAMIU trailed 2-0 in the second game before coming through with two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings. Janelle Ruiz got the scoring started with a RBI single before Alexis González contributed a sac fly RBI in the fifth inning.

Starting pitcher Marina Vásquez contributed to the cause with a two-out two-RBI single in the sixth inning.

Vásquez (5-6) won game two with another complete game effort. She allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

The Dustdevils and Lady Falcons will conclude the series with a single game tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
