March 29, 2010

Final Stats

Oklahoma Panhandle State swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference action on Monday afternoon in Goodwell, Okla. The Aggies won game one 3-2 before posting a 12-2 win in the finale of the three-game series.

OPSU scored all three of its runs in the opener in the bottom of the first inning. TAMIU chipped away with one run apiece in the second and fifth innings, on sac flies by Zeke Sosa and Chris Collazo, but it would not be enough in the seven-inning game.

TAMIU left seven runners stranded in the loss, with five of those runners reaching scoring position. John Gonzáles (2-5) took the loss for the Dustdevils. He allowed three runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings pitched.

OPSU took control of game two early, jumping out to a 9-2 lead after two innings. The Aggies out-hit the Dustdevils 12-7 with four TAMIU errors leading to five unearned OPSU runs.

B.J. Valadez (2-3) was the losing pitcher for TAMIU. He allowed four earned runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.

TAMIU returns to action next weekend with a four-game series at Incarnate Word. The Dustdevils and Cardinals will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
