Dustdevils Wrap Up Heartland Conference Sweep Of Oklahoma Panhandle State

Texas A&M International University is off to a 3-0 start in Heartland Conference play after wrapping up a series sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State with a 9-3 win over the Lady Aggies on Saturday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.

Samantha Carillo sparked a three-run second inning with a one-out solo home run. OPSU (2-14, 0-3 Heartland) scored two runs in the top of the third inning off of TAMIU starter Clarissa Salinas before the Dustdevils answered with four runs in the bottom of that frame to build an insurmountable 7-2 lead.

Samantha García started the scoring in the third with a two-run home run and Alexis González capped the scoring with a RBI single.

TAMIU (7-13, 3-0) finished with 11 hits. Carrillo, García and González finished with two hits apiece.

Victoria Beltrán (3-4) earned the win after reliving Salinas in the fourth inning. She allowed one run on three hits with one strikeout and one walk in 4.0 innings pitched.

TAMIU will play a non-conference doubleheader at Angelo State on Monday before hosting Newman in a home Heartland Conference series next weekend.
