Final Stats
Kevin Young turned in solid pitching performance to lead Texas A&M International University to an 8-3 non-conference road win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday night. The result gives TAMIU a 4-3 lead in the all-time series against the Javelinas.
Young (1-0) was the winning pitcher in his second start of the season after limiting TAMUK to one run on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks in 6.0 innings. He entered the game with 4.2 innings pitched in two appearances.
TAMIU (8-14) slowly built a 4-0 lead over the Javelinas. Max St. Hilaire contributed a RBI single in the first inning and Rey Alvarez scored on a wild pitch after hitting a one-out triple in the sixth inning. The Dustdevils scored twice in the seventh inning with Josh Sepulveda scoring on a wild pitch and David Pittman coming through with a two-out RBI single.
TAMUK (12-10) scored one run apiece in the seventh and eighth innings to cut the TAMIU lead to 4-2 but the Dustdevils put the game out of reach by scoring four runs on four hits in the ninth inning. Chris Collazo's two-RBI single in the ninth pushed TAMIU to a 7-2 lead.
TAMIU out-hit TAMUK 9-6 with Alvarez, Collazo and Pittman leading the way with two hits apiece.
TAMIU returns to action this weekend with a Heartland Conference road series at St. Mary's. The Dustdevils and Rattlers will play a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday.
