Incarnate Word Beats TAMIU 10-3 In Series Finale

Incarnate Word defeated Texas A&M International University 10-3 in Heartland Conference action on Monday morning at Dustdevil Field. The win gives the Cardinals a three-game sweep of the Dustdevils.

UIW scored three runs in the top of the first inning and a four-run fourth inning pushed the Cardinals to an insurmountable 7-1 lead.

Victoria Beltrán cut the Incarnate Word lead to 7-2 with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Dustdevils then cut the deficit to 7-3 when the next four batters reached base on a walk and three singles.

TAMIU (20-26, 14-4 Heartland) had the bases loaded with no outs at that point but the threat ended with two strikeouts and line drive out to third base. The Dustdevils loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning but that threat ended on a ground out by Samantha García.

The Dustdevils finished with 11 hits but left eight runners on base.

Briana Sánchez (20-6) picked up her second complete-game win of the series for Incarnate Word (25-18, 13-4). She allowed three runs on 11 hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in 7.0 innings.

Beltrán (9-10) took the loss for the Dustdevils after allowing three runs on four hits in 1.0 inning. Clarissa Salinas allowed four earned runs on 10 hits in a 6.0 inning relief effort.
