Final Stats
St. Mary's swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference action on Friday afternoon in San Antonio. The Lady Rattlers won the opener 3-0 before posting an 11-2 win in game two.
Briana Sánchez led off the opener with a double but TAMIU left the bases loaded without scoring in that frame. The Dustdevils managed just two hits the rest of the game, singles in the fifth and seventh innings, while St. Mary's won by scoring three runs on eight hits.
Clarissa Salinas (6-8) took the loss for the Dustdevils after allowing three runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings.
TAMIU (20-28, 14-6 Heartland) scored a run on a two-out infield error in the top of the first inning of game two before St. Mary's answered with two runs in the bottom of that frame.
Later, the Dustdevils cut the Lady Rattler lead to 4-2 with a run in the top of the fourth inning but St. Mary's (30-19, 15-5) put the game out of reach with a seven-run fourth. The game ended after five innings because of the 8-run, run rule.
Victoria Beltrán (9-11) took the loss for TAMIU. She allowed five earned runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings. Two TAMIU errors led to six unearned runs scored against Beltrán.
The Dustdevils and Lady Rattlers will conclude the series with a single game on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
