TWU Sweeps TAMIU In Non-Conference Action

April 6, 2010

Final Stats

Texas Woman's swept Texas A&M International University in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Pioneer Field in Denton. TWU won the opener 8-0 in five innings before escaping with a 3-1 win in game two.

TWU ended game early by scoring five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. TAMIU managed just three hits and only one Dustdevil runner reached scoring position in the loss.

Clarissa Salinas (5-7) was the losing pitcher for the Dustdevils. She allowed eight runs in 4.2 innings.

Victoria Beltrán hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning of game two to provide the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead. TWU answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom of that frame to take a 3-1 lead.

TAMIU (17-22) had plenty of chances to tie the score or take the lead the rest of the way but TWU (26-13) had just enough pitching to end those threats.

The Dustdevils loaded the bases in the fifth inning but that threat ended on a fielder's choice ground out by Samantha García. Alexis González led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a strikeout but the next three TAMIU batters reached base, setting up another bases loaded situation. The threat and game ended, however, on consecutive fly outs to left field by García and Samantha Carrillo.

Each team finished with five hits but TAMIU stranded 10 base runners compared to four stranded by TWU.

Beltrán (7-7) took the loss despite allowing only three runs on five hits in a complete-game 6.0 inning outing. She kept the Dustdevils in the game by allowing no hits and only one base runner after the three-run third inning.

The Dustdevils and Pioneers will conclude the series with a single game tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
