Final Stats

St. Mary's swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field. The Rattlers came from behind to win the opener 8-3 before posting a 3-0 win in the regular season finale for both teams.

Chris Collazo contributed a RBI single and Zeke Sosa furnished a RBI sac fly in the third inning of the opener to give TAMIU a 2-0 lead. The lead was pushed to 3-0 on a RBI single by Ricky Hernández in the bottom of the fourth inning.

St. Mary's took the lead with a five-run fifth inning against TAMIU starter B.J. Valadez. Four of those runs were unearned due to two infield errors on the Dustdevils.

St. Mary's stretched the lead to 8-3 with a three-run sixth inning. TAMIU got only one runner to second base over the final three innings against Rattler starter Courtney Behrend (8-2), who earned the win with a 7.0 inning complete-game effort.

Valadez (4-5) took the loss for the Dustdevils. He allowed one earned run on seven hits in 5.0 innings.

St. Mary's jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings in the second game. TAMIU starter Mike Swoboda then settled down to shut the Rattlers down the rest of the way but the Dustdevil offense could not get on track against St. Mary's starter Carl O'Neal.

TAMIU finished with four hits, all singles, against O'Neal. Collazo and Rey Alvarez hit back-to-back singles to center field to start the sixth inning but the threat ended when O'Neal struck out Zeke Sosa, Matt Winter and Curtis Schell.

Swoboda (0-3) took the loss for TAMIU. He allowed three runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings. Swoboda allowed only two hits, both singles, after the second inning. O'Neal (5-1) earned the win for the Rattlers after shutting out the Dustdevils on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
