Texas A&M International University turned in a second-straight dominating performance in Friday night's 4-0 non-conference win over Northeastern State at Dustdevil Field. The win over the Riverhawks follows a 4-1 win over Oauchita Baptist last Sunday.
The game was a physical affair from the beginning, with three NSU players and one TAMIU player being ejected with a red card within the first 25 minutes. Despite playing two players up for the last 20 minutes of the first the Dustdevils held a slim 1-0 lead at the break.
The lead was provided when Christian Salazar flicked a header into the net from 12 yards out in the 29th minute on a pass from Luís Salas.
TAMIU came out firing on all cylinders in the second half with a short-range goal from Alex De la Fuente in the 68th minute pushing the lead to 4-0. Earlier goals were provided by Kristian Quintana in the 60th minute and Salas in the 62nd minute.
TAMIU out-shot NSU 25-5 with a 14-0 advantage in shot on goal. Emmanuel Frias picked up the shutout in goal for the Dustdevils despite the fact that he did not record a save.
TAMIU will play its Heartland Conference home opener on Sunday against Newman. Kickoff against the Jets is scheduled for 1 p.m.
