UAFS Outlasts TAMIU 92-81

Arkansas-Fort Smith defeated Texas A&M International University 91-82 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Stubblefield Center on the UAFS campus.

TAMIU (13-6) led 19-12 midway through the first half and 27-26 at the 4:32 mark but UAFS (14-6) ended the half with a 9-3 run to take a 35-30 lead at the break.

UAFS led by nine points early in the second half before the Dustdevils cut the lead to 50-45 on a jumper by Will Faiivae at the 12:43 mark of the second half. UAFS responded by going on an 11-3 run to build a 61-48 lead at the 10:43 mark. That lead would stretch to 20 points before TAMIU made a late rally to cut the lead to 84-78 on a lay-up by Faiivae with 46 seconds remaining in regulation.

UAFS made five of six free throw attempts and one of one field goal attempts over the final 45 seconds to secure the win.

Faiivae led the Dustdevils with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Luís Gómez finished with 15 points, Ryan McLucas with 12 points and Evan Matteson with 10 points.

Josh Simmons led UAFS with 21 points and a team-high tying five rebounds. Jake Toupal contributed 20 points in a winning cause.
