Boosted by 11 first half 3-pointers, UTPB (12-3, 1-0 Heartland) led 53-35 at the half.

TAMIU (3-14, 0-1) fought back steadily in the second half, cutting the lead to 66-63 on a 3-pointer by Valencia Roy at the 8:18 mark. The Lady Falcon lead stood at 75-69 at the 5:02 mark but the Dustdevils would get no closer than that six-point margin.

A combination of turnovers and a more deliberate pace by UTPB limited TAMIU to four field goal attempts over the final four minutes of the contest.
