Final Stats
San Antonio, Texas - As the end of the regular season draws near, The Texas A&M International University Women's Volleyball team dropped a pivotal match to St. Mary's University in straight sets 25-11, 25-20 and 25-23. The loss drops The Dustdevils (13-15, 7-5 HC) into a fourth place tie with Dallas Baptist University, just one game ahead of U.T. Permian Basin (15-13, 6-5 HC).
"We just couldn't match their defensive aggressiveness tonight," said Head Coach Al Givens. "We were able to get stronger as the match progressed, but we seemed to be one step slower than they were all night. Fortunately we still control our own destiny and if we can win our final two matches we will move on. All season long our team has been able to respond after tough losses and I expect nothing less as we prepare for Dallas Baptist."
The Rattlers defense stifled the Dustdevil hitters, picking up six total blocks on the night and holding TAMIU to a .136 attack percentage. St. Mary's was paced by Mallory Moeller who hammered a match high 17 kills, hitting .350 on the night.
Heartland Conference hitter of the week Andrea Marshall (Junior, Clinton, AZ) finished with a double-double for the Dustdevils, throwing down 11 kills and picking up 11 digs. Heartland Conference setter of ther week Daria Winckler (Junior, Zillah, WS) also had a double-double, with 28 assists and 11 digs.
Only two conference games remain in the season for TAMIU, both coming at home. The Dustdevils host Dallas Baptist on November 3rd, then close out the regular season versus St. Edwards November 5th.
