Final Stats

LAREDO, Texas - After impressive shooting performances in back to back games to open the season, Monday night the Texas A&M International Women's Basketball Team was held to 22 percent shooting from the field (16-71) in a 74-42 loss to Incarnate Word.

"There are not many positive things you can take from a loss like this," said Head Coach David Beaver. "We had our fair share of open looks but we really looked out of sync. Missing wide open layups and wide open three pointers... there is no reason for that. This team is still trying to learn itself, we thought we had worked through some of the early season kinks but apparently we haven't."

TAMIU struggled on the offensive glass early in the game, falling into a quick 11-0 hole. They didn't score their first points of the game until the 13-minute mark when Nikkiti Scott, who led the Dustdevils with 10 points, hit a jumper from the free throw line. Coach Beaver, trying to create a spark, switched to a full court press which helped cut the lead down to five points with ten minutes to play in the half. After a few adjustments, Incarnate Word was able to extend their lead to 20 points by the half.

Needing points quickly, TAMIU relied heavily on three-pointers in the second half, but couldn't find the stroke going 0-for-11 in the half and 1-for-22 in the game.

Four of the Cardinals starters scored in double digits, including Joclyn Jarmon who posted a double-double scoring 12 points and ripping down 15 rebounds. Katy Cooke finished with a game high 16 points for Incarnate Word, followed by Chloe Wallace with 13 and Ashlyn Green with 12.

Scott led TAMIU recording a double-double of her own scoring ten points and grabbing 12 rebounds. The next highest scorers for the Dustdevils were Jennifer Johnson, Sam Chacon and Linda Banuelos who finished with six points apiece.

TAMIU falls to 0-3 on the season with one more home game on the schedule this week. The Dustdevils will host Abilene Christian University Thursday night at 6 p.m. at the TAMIU Gymnasium.
