St. Edwards Sweeps TAMIU In Heartland Conference Finale

Nov. 5, 2011

Final Stats

St. Edward's swept Texas A&M International University (25-17, 25-21, 25-11) in the Heartland Conference regular season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building. TAMIU (14-16, 8-6 Heartland) will get another crack at SEU (19-9, 13-1) on Friday when the fourth seeded Dustdevils face the top seeded and host Hilltoppers in the semifinal round of the Heartland Conference Tournament.

St. Edward's never trailed in today's match and jumped out to significant early leads in all three sets. Miranda Pratt contributed back-to-back kills in the second set to cut SEU's lead to 22-18 but Dustdevils would get no closer than that margin. St. Edward's jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set en route to a 14-point win.

Andrea Marshall led the Dustdevils with 11 kills and 11 digs. Desiree Ortíz lead the squad with 18 digs and Daria Winkler finished with 27 assists and 16 digs.

TAMIU will close out the regular season on Tuesday with a non-conference match at Incarnate Word. The Dustdevils will then head to St. Edward's to make their second ever Heartland Conference Tournament appearance and the first since 2007. The Dustdevils finish the regular season tied for third place with UT-Permian Basin but will be the fourth seed in the tournament by virtue of losing the tie-breaker to the Falcons.
