Final Stats

LAREDO, Texas - From the opening tip, the Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team overwhelmed the visiting Arlington Baptist Patriots, picking up a lopsided 104-16 win Friday night at the TAMIU KCB. After a poor shooting performance in their previous game versus Henderson state, the home team was much improved on their home court.

Six Dustdevils scored in double digits including Amanda Mangan with 14, Desteney Howard with 13, Rosebud Guthrie with 11 and Morgan Simpson, Angie Villanueva and Alexis Thomas each with 10.

"We were trying to work on our execution," said Head Coach David Beaver. "This was one of those games where we just had to play our game, not worry about the opposition and just try to get better. Our focus tonight was on sharing the basketball and we had 33 assists, so I'm really pleased with that."

The Dustdevils fast paced offense was too much for the Patriots to handle, as the Dustdevils opened the game with 45 straight points. ABC didn't get on the board until the 4:26 mark, when Vianey Robels, who led the Patriots with seven points, connected on a long three-pointer. TAMIU shot 62 percent from the field in the opening half, and was 5-8 from three-point range taking a 56-8 lead into halftime.

The Dustdevils didn't let off the gas in the second half, putting up only one less shot than they did in the first. Alexis Thomas scored all 10 of her points in the final 20 minutes of the game, connecting on 4-8 field goals and going a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc.

The TAMIU defense held the Patriots to 9.4 percent shooting, picking up 24 steals and forceing 35 turnovers.

The Dustdevils improve to 4-5 on the season and return to the court tomorrow morning for a rematch against the Patriots at 11 a.m.
