Final Stats

Newman defeated Texas A&M International University 72-51 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Fugate Center on the NU Campus in Wichita, Kan.

Newman (15-7, 5-1 Heartland) led 36-28 at the half. TAMIU (7-19, 4-5 Heartland) cut the lead to 38-33 on a jumper by Micheda Sobers at the 18:05 mark of the second but the Dustdevils would not make another basket for over six minutes, allowing the Jets to build a permanent double digit lead.

Linda Bañuelos made six of 10 field goal attempts to lead TAMIU with 16 points. Samantha Chacon finished with 10 points and Johnna Williams contributed eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

TAMIU returns to action on Thursday with a non-conference home game against Arkansas-Fort Smith. Tip-off against the Lady Lions is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
