Final Stats
St. Mary's defeated Texas A&M International University 66-63 on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.
With the loss, TAMIU and UT-Permian Basin end up tied for the Heartland Conference regular season title with 8-4 league records. UTPB wins the tie-breaker and will be the number one seed in next weekend's Heartland Conference Tournament by virtue of its sweep of Dallas Baptist. TAMIU split its two games against DBU.
It is unclear of whom TAMIU will open the tournament against at this hour but that information should be made available Sunday.
There were four ties and six lead changes in Saturday's contest. St. Mary's (15-11, 7-5 Heartland) held its biggest lead at 43-37 at the 17:01 mark and TAMIU (19-9, 8-4) held its biggest lead at 49-45 at the 10:04 mark.
Ryan McLucas provided his team a 63-61 lead at the 2:22 mark with a lay-up but that would be the last points of the afternoon for TAMIU. The Dustdevils missed four field goal attempts the rest of the way, including two 3-point attempts in the last five seconds.
James Silvie contributed his first career double-double, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds. He was the only Dustdevil to finish with double-figures in either category. Evan Matteson and Luís Gómez finished with nine points apiece.
