Final Stats
Emporia State swept Texas A&M International University in non-conference doubleheader action on Wednesday afternoon at Turnbull Field on the ESU campus in Emporia, Kan. The Hornets stretched their winning streak to nine games with a 2-0 win in the opener and a 4-2 win in the second game.
TAMIU managed just two hits in the opener, both singles, in the opener. ESU recorded just three hits off Kyndall Reaves but a two-run bottom of the first would provide enough offense for the home team.
ESU (14-5) scored two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings of the second game to build a 4-0 lead. Victoria Beltrán contributed a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2 but TAMIU (14-21) would not get a runner into scoring position the rest of the game.
TAMIU will play another non-conference doubleheader at Washburn tomorrow before returning to Heartland Conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Newman.
