Final Stats
Washburn swept Texas A&M International University in non-conference doubleheader action on Thursday afternoon at the WU Softball Complex in Topeka, Kan. The Lady Blues won the opener 3-0 before posting a 7-5 win in the second game.
Despite recording only one hit in the opener, a third inning single by Samantha García, five walks by Washburn pitcher Danielle Fox provided TAMIU with several scoring opportunities. The Dustdevils left five runners stranded, with three of them reaching scoring position.
Washburn built a 7-0 lead in game two before TAMIU answered with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 7-3.
The Dustdevils went scoreless in the sixth inning and the first two batters in the seventh were retired before Alexis González singled and Victoria Beltrán homered to cut the WU lead to 7-5. Samantha Carrillo then single to send the tying run to the plate but the game ended on a fielder's choice ground out by Marina Vásquez.
TAMIU remains in Kansas to play a three-game Heartland Conference series at Newman this weekend. First pitch in Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
