Final Stats
St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International University 12-1 in an elimination game at the Heartland Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon at V.J. Keefe Stadium on the St. Mary's University campus in San Antonio.
SEU took control of the game early, scoring six runs on six hits in the top of the first inning off TAMIU starter Danny Alejandro. That would be all the offense that Hilltopper starter Jeff Rohrbach would need to power his team to a win.
Rohrbach (5-5) allowed only one hit through five innings, a second double by Roberto Castillo, and ended up allowing only six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in a nine-inning complete game effort. Only three Dustdevil runners reached scoring position after the second inning with none of those runners advancing past second base.
Alejandro (2-4) took the loss after allowing six runs before being pulled with two outs in the first inning. Danny Navarro pitched well in a long relief effort, allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts and one walk in 7.2 innings, but the offense could not get on track to get the Dustdevils back into the game.
TAMIU ends the season with a 19-33 record. A record five Dustdevils earned All Heartland Conference honors this season with three being named to the first team and two being honored on the second team.
