Fifth ranked Washburn swept TAMIU in the opener (25-13, 25-8, 25-16) before the Dustdevils bounced back quickly with a sweep over former Heartland Conference rival Incarnate Word (25-21, 25-19, 25-17).

The win over UIW is the first for the Dustdevils in the series against the Cardinals since Oct. 31, 2006, when TAMIU was still a NAIA member of the Red River Athletic Conference. Incarnate Word now leads the all-time series 10-4 against the Dustdevils.
TAMIU will conclude tournament play on Saturday with matches against 20th ranked Truman and Lone Star Conference stalwart Midwestern State.
