Final Stats
Texas A&M International University dominated all facets of the game in opening Heartland Conference play with a 5-2 rout of St. Mary's on Wednesday night at Dustdevil Field. TAMIU out-shot St. Mary's 17-5 with the game being played on the home team's offensive half of the field for most of the evening.
Jovany Macias provided the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead when he left-footed the ball into the net from 15 yards out in the 25th minute. Luís Salas increased the lead to 2-0 when he ended a long run with a shot into the net from 25 yards out in the 36th minute.
Eduardo Serrano headed a corner kick into goal in the 60th minute for the Rattlers to cut the lead to 2-1 but Diego Manzano-Cano out the game away for the Dustdevils with goals in the 71st and 76th minutes.
Ivan Raad capped the scoring for TAMIU when he fought through several Rattler defenders before scoring on a short range blast in the 86th minute.
The Dustdevil defense toughened up after Yamin Olavarrieta was ejected from the game with a red card in the 65th minute, allowing no St. Mary's shots over the final 25 minutes of regulation.
Emmanuel Frias made one save in goal in en route to recording the complete-game win.
