Volleyball Falls, Finishes With First Winning Record in Six Years

Box Score DALLAS, Texas – Saturday afternoon the TAMIU volleyball team was swept by Dallas Baptist University 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 16-25) in their regular season finale.

The loss drops the Dustdevils’ conference record to 7-7 on the season, but does not affect the Dustdevils’ playoff chances.

TAMIU finishes the regular season with an overall record of 15-11, the team’s first winning record since 2006 when the Dustdevils went 24-5 as a provisional member of the Heartland Conference.

“Our goal has been to develop a program of success – on the court, in the classroom, and in life,” said Head Coach Marlon Sano.  “Our staff and players have made commitments to achieve in all of those areas.  We have successfully raised the academic standards to where we currently have a team GPA well over a 3.0, our players are graduating on time, and moving on in life.  Attaining a winning record is just the first of many more to come with the standard of going to not just the conference tournament, but the NCAA tournament becomes the standard,”

TAMIU committed 18 errors in the match, compared to only eight by Dallas Baptist.  The Patriots finished with a .339 attack percentage and doubled up the Dustdevils with six blocks compared to three.

Alex Ciszek led the Dustdevils with nine kills and nine digs, but also tallied six errors for a hitting percentage of .079.  Paige Criss finished with her third highest kill total of the season adding seven, hitting .417 for the match.  Daria Winckler finished with a game high 31 assists and Desiree Ortiz led TAMIU with 15 digs.

Dallas Baptist senior Kristen Secord recorded a game-high 17 kills, hitting .515 for the match.  She also picked up 12 digs to go along with three blocks.

The Heartland Conference Tournament will begin Thursday, November 15, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, as UAFS was the pacesetter in the Heartland Conference this season. Opponents and times will be announced and fans can follow the action at www.heartlandsports.org for the latest updates.
