Final Stats
Texas A&M International University defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State 9-8 earlier today in the completion of a game suspended yesterday due to darkness. The final game of the three-game series was stopped in the bottom of the fifth inning due to wet conditions with TAMIU leading 4-1. That game will resume tomorrow at 1 p.m.
TAMIU took care of busy quickly in the resumed game from yesterday, winning it on its first turn at bat in the bottom of the 10th inning. Will Wurth retook his base at first when the game resumed before taking second base on a defensive obstruction call against the Aggies before the first pitch was offered to Austin Voros.
Voros worked the count to 3-1 before delivering a sharp single to left field that pushed Wurth across the plate with the winning run.
Voros' game-winning hit provided TAMIU with its second walk-off win in two games against the Aggies. Ramon Sandoval provided the heroics in the first game of the series.
The win capped a roller coaster ride of a game in which the Dustdevils lead 5-1 after five innings before allowing the Aggies back into the contest with a six-run sixth inning. OPSU led 8-6 going into the bottom of the ninth before TAMIU evened the score with two runs.
The Dustdevils used five pitchers in the contest with Julio Velez picking up the win after contributing one shutout inning of work. Starter Danny Alejandro turned in a solid effort, allowing no runs on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts.
